An oily or dull gray hard solid petroleum product with a metallic luster and porosity, consisting of microscopic graphite crystals forming granular, columnar, or needle-like carbon bodies. Petroleum coke is a hydrocarbon, containing more than 99% carbon, but also contains nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur and heavy metal compounds.
